Chelsea missed a lot of chances to score in a game which they totally dominated.

Chelsea had already qualified for the last sixteen and should have won their last match in Group B. Andriy Shevchenko, Claudio Pizarro and Frank Lampard had good chances saved by Valencia Goalkeeper Santigo Canizares. Joe cole and Pizarro hit the woodwork and Salomon Kalou failed to find the target from only six yards out.

Valencia was very poor throughout, but was kept in the game by some good saves from keeper Canizares. Shevchenko was denied by Canizares after 3 minutes and the resulting corner was headed inches wide by John Terry. Chelsea began to bombard the Valencia goal and Canizares saved a brilliant shot from Lampard.

Just before the interval Valencia had 1 clear-cut chance. David Silva set-up David Villa but Petr Cech came to the rescue for Chelsea.

Shevchenko and Pizarro both failed to turn Chelsea's greater possession and chance’s into goals. Lampard was replaced on the 62nd minute by Joe Cole in order to keep him fresh for the big game against Arsenal at the weekend.

Pizarro nearly scored 4 minutes later when Wayne Bridge played him in, but once again Canizares made a good save. The best chance of the game came next when Pizarro set-up Kalou for him to miss from only six-yards out. Pizzarro then grazed the outside of the post.

The woodwork was hit once again in the 83rd minute, this time it was a 20 yard effort from Joe Cole. His shot was heading for the back of the net but Canizares turned the effort onto the upright.

In the end Chelsea was lacking the killer blow without the influential Didier Drogba.
