Everton will be looking to bounce back from their controversial defeat in the weekend’s Merseyside derby with victory over Larissa at Goodison Park. But they know it won’t be easy to get past the team who knocked out Blackburn Rovers in the previous round.
Boss David Moyes could recall Tim Cahill who is available after breaking a metatarsal in July, while Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville are both likely to feature despite domestic bans for their recent dismissals. However, Andrew Johnson (ankle), Thomas Gravesen (knee) and James Vaughan (shoulder) are all still missing through of injury.
Greek side Larissa go into the game without a win in any competition since their 2-0 victory over Blackburn in the last round of the UEFA Cup. But they will look to make their mark in the first European meeting between the two sides.
And they have a wealth of inside knowledge with many of the team having connections to English clubs. Coach Georgios Donis became the first Greek player to play in the English Premier League in 1996 and went on to play for Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town; striker Ibrahima Bakayoko played for Everton in the 1998/99 season; and captain Nikos Dabizas spent seven years in England with Newcastle United and then Leicester City.
