 After a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, Liverpool look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season against Marseilles on Wednesday with a victory against lowly Spurs.
Jermaine Pennant returns to Liverpool’s squad after serving his suspension but Fabio Aurelio is doubtful for the game. Benitez will be boosted by the availability of Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt, Alvaro Arbeloa, John Arne Riise, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin.
The pressure remains on Martin Jol as Tottenham’s poor start to the season continues. They travel to Anfield still looking to escape the bottom three but will have a tough time against a side who are yet to concede a league goal from open play.
Although Ricardo Rocha (ankle) and Ledley King (knee) are out, Jermaine Jenas (abdominal strain) and Aaron Lennon (knee) could both return. Dimitar Berbatov and Pascal Chimbonda are likely to be back in the first team after being rested and Teemu Tanio is available after a ban.
