 Rafa Benitez is faced with the choice of keeping Fernando Torres in the side after his hat-trick against Reading in midweek’s Carling Cup game, or relegate him to his usual place on the sidelines.
Jermaine Pennant and Javier Mascherano are both available after overcoming injury and the Liverpool boss has no further injury worries for the game against lowly Reading.
Kevin Kilbane (ankle), Ryan Taylor (calf) and Antonio Valencia (hamstring) are all doubtful for the hosts who are looking to pick up only their third win of the season against the unbeaten Reds.
They will be boosted by the return of Paul Scharner and Andreas Granqvist who both picked up injuries in last week’s 2-1 defeat at Reading.
