Burnley will welcome Pompey to a wet Lancashire as they look to cause an upset in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night. The Clarets’ recent form has seen them rise to sixth in the Championship while Portsmouth’s defence has showed huge improvements after being a target for the training ground.
Burnley midfielder Chris McCann is doubtful after being stretchered off during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Championship rivals Bristol City. Alan Mahon could also be absent again due to a thigh strain which has kept him on the sidelines for the last three games.
Andy Gray should be passed fit despite a foot infection, but fellow striker Besart Berisha will miss the rest of the season after the Albanian suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in last month’s international against Malta.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is set to make sweeping changes for the trip north. He made nine for the 3-0 win over Leeds in the last round, and with this game kicking off just over 48 hours after the 1-0 victory at Blackburn on Sunday, a similar number is expected.
Jamie Ashdown, Matt Taylor, Pedro Mendes, Martin Cranie, David Nugent, Noe Pamarot, Richard Hughes and Arnold Mvuemba are all likely to start at Turf Moor.
