Despite being unbeaten in the league, Mark Hughes will be looking to bounce back from the midweek European defeat as he prepares for the visit of Pompey.
Portsmouth have already played each of the big four and fared pretty well but will now have to be the first team to beat Blackburn this season in order to put pressure on the teams above them.
Harry Redknapp is still waiting to get the best out of his summer spending but has few injury worries for the trip to Lancashire. Kanu is likely to play up front with Utaka and Benjani on the wings, while Matt Taylor, David Nugent and Nico Kranjcar are all hoping for a starting place.
Blackburn’s main injury worry is Captain Ryan Nelsen who hurt his hamstring during the defeat against Larissa. Zurab Khizanishvili and Christopher Samba are both available for selection again, with Jason Roberts and Matt Derbyshire looking for a place up front.
