Wayne Rooney’s return to United’s squad has lifted the spirits of Sir Alex Ferguson and the manager must now decide whether he’ll play a part in the game at Goodison Park. In his first game since breaking his foot on the opening day of the season, Rooney returns to his former club as United hope to put a disappointing start to the season firmly to the back of their minds.
Cristiano Ronaldo is also available after his return from suspension, but Darren Fletcher and John O’Shea are both out after picking up injuries on midweek international duty.
David Moyes will have to make a late decision on Time Howard as his goalkeeper struggles with a finger injury and Stefan Wessels stands by as a replacement. Midfielder Thomas Gravesen is also doubtful with a knee problem and James McFadden is also expected to be out of the side despite his winning international goal in the week for Scotland.
Everton hope to continue their excellent start to the season and maintain the pressure on the teams around them at the top of table, although United are snapping at their heels just two points behind them.
